The Board of Directors of the Company are made up of people who have distinguished themselves in both the public and private sectors of the economy. Below is a presentation of the profiles of some of the Directors: CHAIRMAN Chief Chamberlain Oyibo was born in 1941 and is a Nigerian. He attended Government College, Umuahia before proceeding to University of Ibadan where he bagged a B.Sc. Honours Degree in Geology in 1966. He obtained an M.Sc Degree in Petroleum Geology from the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Chief Oyibo has recorded a lot of distinguished achievement on his working career, which started with a stint with Texaco Overseas Petroleum Company (TOPCON) in Port Harcourt, but with working attachments in Houston and Louisiana (USA). Between 1976 and 1978, he was the Deputy Chief Petroleum Engineer in the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Inspectorate Division NNPC, Lagos. He served variously as Branch Manager, NNPC Warri (1978-1985), General Manager Port Harcourt Refinery (1985-1986), General Manager Kaduna Refinery (1986-1988), Managing Director Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, Benin (1988-1990), Managing Director, Eleme Petro-Chemicals Limited, Port Harcourt, (1990-1991), Group Executive Director (Upstream & Gas) NNPC (1992-1993), Group Managing Director NNPC, Lagos (1993-1995). Since 1995, Chief Oyibo has served as the chairman and chief Executive of various companies. He was appointed the chairman of Board of Directors, Starzs Marine & Engineering Limited in April 1988.
MANAGING DIRECTOR/CEO Mr. Greg Utomwen Ogbeifun is a Nigerian, Born in 1951. He is a qualified Marine Engineer with a first class (combined) Certificate of Competency and an Associate Member of the Institute of Marine Engineers. Mr. Ogbeifun is recognised as a Marine Surveyor by Lloyds Register of Shipping, London, and Germanischer Lloyds of Germany and is a non exclusive surveyor to Germanischer Lloyds in charge of over 80% of the Nigerian Maritime Region.
He was trained by Shell Tankers UK between 1972 and 1980. In 1980, he joined Arab Maritime Petroleum Corporation, Kuwait, which he left in 1983 to join OIL Limited Nigeria office, which was a part of the ocean of the Ocean Inchcape Group as an Engineer. In 1985 he was promoted to take responsibility for the technical operation of over twenty vessels. He left OIL Limited in 1986 to set up Starzs Investment Company Limited, whose activities include ownership, operations and maintenance of barges and tugs servicing the offshore oil industry. Mr. Ogbeifun is a member of British society of Maritime Consultants and ship surveyors.
DIRECTOR Professor Dew Mayson is a Liberian, born in March 1949. He was educated at George Town University Washington D.C., USA where he obtained a B.Sc. Degree in International Affairs and Economics in 1969. He went on to University of California, Los Angeles, USA and obtained his Masters and PhD degrees in Economics and African Studies in 1971. Prof. Dew Mayson has served variously as Professor of Political Economy at Cuttington University College, Liberia from 1976 to1980. Chairman and Minister of National Investment Government of Liberia from 1980 to 1983 and Ambassador of Liberia to France, Spain, Switzerland, Algeria and UNESCO between 1983 to 1985. Presently, he is a businessman with interests in shipping iron ore, oil trading and oil services. DIRECTOR
AVM Joe Ehigie is a Nigerian, born in 1944. He joined the Nigerian Air Force as an Officer Cadet and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in 1966. He attended courses in the U.K (1968 90), West Germany (1979); the Netherlands (1985) and USA (1992) specialising in Communications and Electronics. He also attended Command and Staff courses in the USA (1976 77) and in India (1980) where he obtained an M.Sc. in Defence Studies. AVM Ehigie has held staff and command appointments both within and outside the military including Chief of Communications for the Armed forces, Director of the Nigeria Airports Authority and Principal General Staff Officer at the Presidency. He retired from the Air Force in December, 1994 with the rank of Air Vice Marshall.
He is presently the Chairman/CEO of a trawling company and owns many deep-sea trawlers. DIRECTOR Engineer Charles A. Osezua is a Nigerian. He was educated at the Texas A&I University, Kingsville Texas, USA, where he obtained a B.Sc. degree in Natural Gas Engineering and M.Sc. degree with a major in Natural Gas Engineering and a minor in Business Administration and International Law. He has over fifteen years of diversified experience in the Oil and Gas industry. Engr. Osezua worked with Ogden Well Logging Incorporation at Corpus Christi, Texas as a unit Manager from 1979 to 1981, Exploration Logging Inc. at Houston, Texas as a Senior Exploration Geologist from August 1981 to 1982. He further worked at various departments of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation between 1882 and 1983. He initiated and managed a number of projects, policy studies and market surveys. Some of his specific experiences include: Policy modelling and development under which he was the technical leader and Adviser to the Inter-ministerial Committee on the formulation of natural gas policy. He was also the NNPC representative in NNPC/SHELL technical team for the development of Associated Gas Framework Agreement. He also represented NNPC in NNPC/SHELL Gas Market Survey. Engineer Osezua participated in National priority projects, supervised and co-ordinated the activities of Products Pipeline Phase III projects, participated in the Butamisation project, Bonny Export Terminal project, Port Harcourt Refinery Rehabilitation project and Gas Project Development NAPIMS including the initiation of the OSO NGL project. He is a member of many professional engineering bodies such as Council of Registered Engineers, Nigeria Society of Engineers, Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and American Institute of Mining Engineers. DIRECTOR Mr John Lester is a British, born in 1937. He qualified as a Marine Engineer with a first class (combined) Certificate of Competency. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors. He began his career in Marine Engineering with H.M. Dockyard, Portsmouth as an Engine Fitter Apprentice between 1950 and 1955, worked as a Draughtsman on the Nuclear Project Team at the Admiralty Drawing Office Bath, England between 1960 and 1961. He held various appointments in the marine and shipping industry until 1975 when he joined OIL Limited as an Engineer Superintendent. He subsequently became Operations Manager responsible for the operations of vessels and terminal contracts. In 1985 he was appointed Operations Director of OIL Limited with responsibility for the operation of the Companys fleet of vessels world wide. He was also responsible for directing the project section in vessel building programs, major conversions, vessels acquisitions as well as ensuring that regional and local offices operated to the Company standards.
In 1990, Mr Lester was appointed to the British Committee of Germanischer Lloyds. He retired in 1994 to set up his own outfit J.C. Lester & Associates, Marine Consultants and Surveyors based in Middlesex, England. He is a member of the British Society of Marine Consultants and Ship surveyors.
